María-José Ayuso is a vibrant science-artist born in Bogotá, Colombia, and raised in Miami, FL. She now resides in Boston, MA, where she obtained her Master of Science in Microbiology from Boston University School of Medicine and currently works in the biotech industry.

By day, she is in a laboratory cultivating her skills as a scientist, and in her free time, she channels her creativity as a freelance scientific illustrator.
Her portfolio, The Illuminated Cell, centers on the captivating world of immunofluorescence microscopy, where she brings the microcosmos to life on her digital canvas.
Her talent has earned recognition, with The Photonics Center Art Committee at Boston University recently selecting her piece titled Ganglion for their permanent collection. She aims to continue her exploration as a visual artist peering through a microscope lens.
